Arriving
back from New York - USA after attending DPI / NGO CONFERENCE arranged
by United Nations Mr. Iqbal Chishti President UNA Pakistan has launched
a “Mission Green" Programme In Pakistan.
United Nations Association of Pakistan organized
this event in collaboration with Saddar Town and City District Government
Karachi to support “Mission Green” Karachi project.
The objective of mission green is to spread awareness
about the importance of tree plantation and create a sense of ownership
in the people mainly in the youth of Pakistan.
The theme of the project is to improve environmental
issues and to create awareness among the people about the ownership
of the country that the country belongs to us and we have to make
it clean and green. The project started from Karachi in collaboration
with CDGK and Saddar town in which Saddar town donated 100,000 trees.
UNAP started planting the trees with the participation of consulates,
multinationals and community members. The larger number of trees
is provided for adoption by putting the name tags on it so people
should look after them. Trees make environment less polluted and
provide cooling equal to 1.5 tons of AC. Different awareness campaigns
have been arranged by UNAP volunteers to communicate people and
to address this issue widely. UNAP observes world environment day
every year to redirect people's attention towards this very important
issue.
Various academic Institutions like SZABIST University,
Karachi Grammar School, Convent of Jesus and Mary among others participated
in the colorful tree plantation event in which they adopted a plant
with their name tags on them.
The inauguration ceremony of this event was held
on 18th of November 2007, at Arif Hussain Shaheed park Clifton-
Karachi. The chief guest of this event was Naib City Nazima Ms.
Nasreen Jalil.
Mission Green Pakistan has started tree plantations
of 1000 trees in Karachi and will further precede its plantation
process up to 100,000 trees through out Pakistan. |
