Human Rights Committee
The Mission of United Nations Association of Pakistan is to promote
and protect human rights for all, and aware and encourage people
to speaks out objectively in the face of human rights violations.
We provide a forum for identifying, highlighting and developing
responses to today's human rights challenges, and act as the principal
focal point of human rights research, education, public information,
and advocacy activities.
Since Governments have the primary responsibility to protect human
rights, UNAP provides assistance to Governments,
such as expertise and technical trainings in the areas of administration
of justice, legislative reform, and electoral process, to help implement
international human rights standards on the ground. We also assist
other entities with responsibility to protect human rights to fulfill
their obligations and individuals to realize their rights.
The UNAP undertook a range of activities spanning the whole spectrum
of human rights, with a view to both raising awareness among citizens
about fundamental rights and monitoring their situation.
He has made various chapter / taskforce offices of the organization
remained active in holding workshops, fact-finding missions, seminars,
surveys and rallies. Numerous workshops on political education and
a series of consultations on issues relating to elections were designed
to increase awareness about the importance of the electoral process
in a democratic dispensation. A number of workshops, fact-finding
missions and visits focused on rights of segments of population
with additional vulnerabilities, including women, children and refugees.
For the Rights of women and children the UNAP has
made the following agenda to work,-Intervening where important and
possible for redressal of individual injustice or fear of injustice.
- Information collection, so that a track was kept of happenings
and tendencies on a day-to-day basis.
- Fact-finding through UNAP’s own missions for an independent,
objective inquiry into an event or development of concern and to
build appropriate pressure for action.
- Seminars on human right issues or human rights aspect of issues
to create awareness or/and to influence and mobilize public opinion.
- Workshops to involve motivators, activists and others and develop
insight/skill/know-how in respect of chosen activity.
- Surveys and studies in areas of concern where new formulations
or findings required to be made.
- Publications to disseminate new information, to focus public attention
or advance a point of view on issues of current concern, or as tools
for coordination of activity.
- Public demonstrations as a way both of mobilizing people and seeking
to influence decision-makers.
- Lobbying public representatives in the direction of the public
action being canvassed.
- Legal assistance in individual cases of particular need, and court
intervention on issues of general concern to UNAP Human right committee.
- Networking with like-minded organizations within the country and
liaison abroad, mostly with human rights bodies and in relation
to human rights concerns, to exchange views and information and
develop solidarity of concern and action.
For Advocacy Project The UNAP seeks to help community-based
advocates produce, disseminate and use information, and so become
more effective advocates for human rights and social justice.
This project offers several services that are aimed at strengthening
community-based advocacy. These services have been developed during
several years of working side by side with partners and responding
to requests from UNAP members and government. They are also designed
to play to UNAP's strengths as a networking and advocacy catalyst.
Except where stated otherwise, UNAP services are offered at no cost
to members.
For Human rights awareness and mobilization of activists the UNAP
has made following agenda,
- spreading awareness of human rights among the people;
- exposing wrongs and disseminating knowledge about them;
- motivating communities for Collective response against local wrongs;
- mobilizing public opinion against bigger or systemic ills
Human Rights protection
This project is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people
around the world.The UNAP stand with victims and activists to prevent
discrimination, to uphold political freedom, to protect people from
inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice,
investigate and expose human rights violations and hold abusers
accountable, challenge governments and those who hold power to end
abusive practices and respect international human rights law, enlist
the public and the international community to support the cause
of human rights for all.
More than 240 dedicated professionals work for this project. We
have lawyers, journalists, academics, and country experts of many
nationalities and diverse backgrounds. We often join forces with
human rights groups from other countries to further our common goals.
A growing cadre of volunteers supports us.
